B-Frank's Week 4 NFL Power Rankings9 min read
Biggest Jump: Los Angeles is up 10 spots after their win against Tampa Bay.
Biggest Fall: NY Jets dropped 9 spots after their loss to Kansas City.
1. New England 3-0
Last Week: 1
No brainer, really don’t have to write much. Still undefeated and ripped apart JJ Watt and his defense with a 3rd string QB. Pats play the upstart Bills at home.
2. Denver 3-0
Last Week: 3
Well well well, looks like Trevor Siemian can throw the ball a bit! He played a hell of a game against a good (possibly overrated?) Bengals defense. The defense continues to impress. Denver plays at Tampa Bay.
3. Minnesota 3-0
Last Week: 7
I really don’t know what to say. The Vikings got a HUGE road win at Carolina and made Cam look foolish doing so. This, in my mind, is the best defense in the league right now. They have beaten Rodgers and Newton in back-to-back weeks. No AP, no problem for Minny. They host the Giants on Monday Night.
4. Philadelphia 3-0
Last Week: 8
Carson Wentz is legit. He was efficient, made big plays and STILL hasn’t turned the ball over. That Bradford deal seems to be working out pretty well right now for the Eagles as they punished Big Ben and the Steelers. The Eagles have a bye week.
5. Seattle 2-1
Last Week: 13
The Seahawks finally looked like the team we expected them to in a blowout win over San Fran. There are still some injury issues, but Russ looked better and Doug Baldwin had a monster game. Seattle takes on the NY Jets in New Jersey.
6. Green Bay 2-1
Last Week: 12
The Packers looked good offensively this week. Rodgers threw for 4 TDs and Lacy ran for over 100 yards. The defense will continue to be an issue as the gunslinger Matt Stafford put up 385 yards and 3 scores. Green Bay has a bye this week.
7. Baltimore 3-0
Last Week: 10
The Ravens are the worst undefeated team I have seen in a long while. But they’re undefeated and you can only play the games on your schedule. A fortunate blocked kick late set up Justin Tucker to hit a game-winning FG. Baltimore hosts Oakland.
Last Week: 2
Pittsburgh got rocked in the battle of PA. Carson Went dominated their defense and the offense was horrendous. They ran the ball a total of 10 times, that’s not going to to cut in the NFL. The Steelers have the Chiefs at home on Sunday Night.
9. Carolina 1-2
Last Week: 6
Boy did Cam and company look baaaaad this week. The only solace is that they did so against the best defense in the league. Expect the Panthers to have a bounce-back win in a must-win game at Atlanta this week.
10. Houston 2-1
Last Week: 4
Houston got punched in the mouth and did not respond in New England on Thursday night. The defense got torched by a 3rd string QB for 27 points. The offense and Brock proved that their first two weeks were a fluke. Fortunately for them, they host winless Tennessee.
11. Arizona 1-2
Last Week: 5
Carson, Carson, Carson…Palmer threw the ball a total of 50 times, 4 of those were to the Buffalo defense. Turnovers were the key in this one as the offense produced some solid numbers. The defense didn’t look great against a decent-at-best Bills team. The Cards are in a hole early and could really use a win this week as they are home against Jeff “500” Fisher and the Rams.
12. Oakland 2-1
Last Week: 14
It wasn’t pretty, but Oakland escaped Nashville with a 7 point win against the struggling Titans. Their run game really struggled and Derek Carr could not reproduce his performance from the previous two weeks. The defense still looks really good for Jack Del Rio. They go to undefeated Baltimore this week.
13. Kansas City 2-1
Last Week: 15
The KC defense did all the dirty work forcing Fitz into SIX INTERCEPTIONS. Pretty easy to win a game when your defense can do that. The offense is in desperate need of a spark and if Jamaal Charles can come back he could provide that spark running the ball and catching passes out of the backfield. KC heads to Pittsburgh on Sunday Night.
14. Dallas 2-1
Last Week: 17
Dak looked great, against the Bears…you can’t really judge a team on how they play against the Bears or Browns, both teams are hardly NFL quality. What I will say is that Elliott and Dak were playing with confidence and when young players/teams play confidently, they can be dangerous (see Carson Wentz). Dallas plays at San Fran this weekend.
15. NY Giants 2-1
Last Week: 11
Oh Eli. I am a huge Jay Cutler fan and Eli is the only guy that gives me hope and makes me feel better. Manning leads the NFL in turnovers since 2011. Yes, he has even more than Jay. Manning threw a pair of bad interceptions, one of which sealed the win for Washington. Giants head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings on Monday Night.
16. Cincinnati 1-2
Last Week: 9
I cannot get a read on the Bengals. They have talent, they have a good coach, but cannot seem to scrape a win together. The defense made Siemian look like a pro-bowler. Big game at home against Miami on Thursday Night.
17. Atlanta 2-1
Last Week: 18
Falcons won in a shootout against a bad Saints team. Matt Ryan continues to impress and Devonta Freeman had a big night. The defense is still a big question mark moving forward but they play in an easily winnable division with Carolina struggling. Falcons will play the Panthers at home.
18. Los Angeles 2-1
Last Week: 28
**Insert the Rams scored a touchdown for the first time since 1994 here** Now that that’s done, the Rams trounced the Bucs defense. Case Keenum didn’t look terrible and Gurley is playing a bit better but still has room to improve. LA heads to Arizona in a big game for both teams.
19. Indianapolis 1-2
Last Week: 23
The Colts got the win in a game that looked like no one wanted to win. Luck outplayed Philip Rivers which actually means something this year. Now the Colts get the dreaded London game against Jacksonville this week.
20. Washington 1-2
Last Week: 24
Washington finally got a win this week in New Jersey against the Giants. Cousins played well and the run game did enough to win. The defense forced a few key turnovers including a game-clinching INT on the Giants final drive. Washington gets the Browns at home.
21. Detroit 1-2
Last Week: 21
No reason to drop after a close loss to Green Bay. We expected them to lose, but they looked good in the loss. Stafford put up some big numbers but the defense couldn’t quite hold Green Bay when they needed it. The Lions head to Chicago this week.
22. Buffalo 1-2
Last Week: 31
Buffalo with an absolute stunner to save the season? Maybe. But it was certainly a huge win over a good Arizona team. They made Palmer look horrendous! This is the Bills team I expected to start the season, let’s see if they can replicate their performance. Buffalo heads to New England.
23. Miami 1-2
Last Week: 27
Dolphins won a shitty game in overtime against a Browns team that really did not seem to want to win. The Phins were fortunate to survive as the Browns missed 3 FGs and a late forced fumbled to set up a potential game-winner. Tannehille was okay, nothing special, however, the running backs did not give him any help. Miami goes to Cincy on Thursday Night.
24. Tampa Bay 1-2
Last Week: 20
Tampa screwed me hard last week. I lost my survivor pool because they couldn’t convert in the red-zone in the last minute. Jameis continues to put up big numbers 405 yards and 3 TDs. But can someone, please give him some help? The guy is running the offense on his own. Bucs hosts the Broncos.
25. NY Jets 1-2
Last Week: 16
The Jets looked terrible, TERRIBLE last week against KC. It looks like it’s time for Geno Smith to take the reigns. The offense needs to realize that Forte needs more touches, if he doesn’t have 20 a game, you are hurting yourself. The defense *should* be good, but it’s time for them to wake up or this season may be over soon. Jets are home against Seattle.
26. San Diego 1-2
Last Week: 19
Poor Philip Rivers, the guy has played really really well this year, but cannot seem to buy a win. Rookie TE Hunter Henry had a devastating sequence of plays where he had a false start and then proceeded to fumble after an 18 yard pick-up, sealing the Colts win. Chargers’ injury woes continue as they lose defense captain Manti T’eo for the year with a torn achilles. Chargers are home against the Saints.
27. San Francisco 1-2
Last Week: 29
Despite the loss to the Seahawks, the 49ers move up because of how bad these bottom teams are. San Fran actually has a win and that’s something that most of the lower teams won’t see for a while. Blaine Gabbert is not very good at quarterback but Carlos Hyde is a very capable back. Niners host the Boys in Santa Clara.
28. New Orleans 0-3
Last Week: 25
Nothing new here, the Saints defense is awful and Drew Brees is still Drew Brees. If their defense can somehow hold a team to under 30 points then the Saints will get a win, but that’s a big if. New Orleans is at San Diego this week.
29. Tennessee 0-3
Last Week: 22
This team lives and dies with Marcus Mariota’s play, this week he was not good. Murray has been very good averaging 6 yards per carry. The defense has proven that they can keep them in games, it’s all up to Mariota. Tennessee hits the road to take on a good Houston defense.
30. Jacksonville 0-3
Last Week: 26
A season that seemed so promising to start has gone bad very very quickly. Bortles and co have yet to win and have had two games that they could have and should have won. A blocked FG lost them the game (and me money) this week. Jacksonville is in London against Indy.
31. Chicago 0-3
Last Week: 30
I really have nothing to say, the Bears are bad, the only positive has been the defensive front 7. Read my colleagues Jack and Sam’s blogs to see the overall mood and feel around Chicago. Bears host the Lions in a battle of who sucks less.
32. Cleveland 0-3
Last Week: 32
I genuinely feel bad for the Browns. They played a really good (or good enough) game to beat the Dolphins last week. Cody Kessler played well and Terrelle Pryor was Mr. Everything in an effort to steal a road win, but 3 missed FGs is tough to overcome. Cleveland heads to Washington.
