Is this GarPax’s only move these days? Our trash for your trash? First, it was Snell for MCW (who apparently is the second coming of Christ according to Magic Johnson’s Twitter), and now this? But as much as I want to criticize this move, if it involves getting rid of Niko for some sort of talent, I’m all for it.
Now, Jah is absolutely not without his faults; he gives little to no effort defensively, his rebounding rate is abominably low for a 7-footer, and the ball tends to stick in his hands offensively. But he does undoubtedly have a quality post game within 15 feet of the rim, which is hard to come by these days.
Niko’s contract is up at the end of this season, and to call him a disappointment at this point isn’t even satisfying. I hope and pray that GarPax has the common sense to realize this man has no future with the Bulls, and we can at least get something of value before we slam the door shut on his way out. So, sure, let’s bring in a second year player who was nearly the #1 overall pick last year. He’s got talent, and that’s something we’ve sorely needed. Not one young player on our current roster projects to be anything more than an average NBA player at best, and that’s troubling.
If something other than Niko is traded, though, so help me. Trade one of our only somewhat capable 3pt shooters for a low post scorer type that has basically been abandoned by the NBA? For Niko, sure why not, he’s gone anyways. But if Doug and/or a first round draft pick is involved, I will curse the Reinsdorf name for more generations than Madame Zeroni cursed the Yelnats family. We gave up 5 (!) draft picks to get Doug, and he is our only hope of having a 3pt sharpshooter in the future. He’s also on his rookie contract for another year, so it would make absolutely zero sense to deal him now.
In summation, I have no faith in our organization and I am expecting the worst come Thursday.
