Sam Querrey Deserves Your Attention

By beating world No. 1 Andy Murray 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1 earlier today, Sam Querrey accomplished something no American male has since 2009–he reached a Grand Slam semifinal. That statistic shouldn’t be that shocking, really. American tennis has been in a real funk since the twilight of Andy Roddick’s career, at least on the men’s side. American women have arguably been the best group in the world, with the Williams sisters, Madison Keys, Sloane Stephens, Coco Vandeweghe, and others all having great success. But the men have been unable to sustain any run of elite form, with players...

2017 NBA Draft: Eastern Conference Grades

Previously, we brought you the NBA’s Western Conference draft grades. Here are our Eastern Conference draft grades. Atlanta Hawks: B Additions: John Collins (19), Tyler Dorsey (41), Alpha Kaba (60) The illustrious Dwight Howard era in Atlanta is over, and the Hawks needed a big body to replace the loss of both him and Paul Millsap. Despite sharing a name with arguably the least athletic member of my 16” softball team, Collins has the potential to be a great player. Way too Early 2017-18 College Basketball Top Ten

It has been two months since Gonzaga lost in the national championship and sent your favorite college basketball opiner into an existential crisis. We have come a long way since I was sending out tweets like this: It is bad that Gonzaga is going to lose, but the good news is that death will eventually claim us all — Brian Fox (@RealBrianFox) April 4, 2017 My Gonzaga-fueled depression has abated and I’m ready to look ahead to next year. Now that the draft deadline has come and gone, and all the top recruits  have committed, just about every roster...

Big Ten Tournament Preview

There’s been a lot of belly-aching recently, largely from those within the league, that the Big Ten isn’t getting enough respect. The reason for that is this: the conference is trash this season. Having a fair number of OK to good teams does not an elite conference make. The Big Ten teams currently projected to go dancing have a combined one top 30 win out of conference, and Purdue needed a miracle comeback in that game to knock off Notre Dame. I’d be pretty surprised if multiple teams made it to the second weekend. But despite the lack of elite...

Fox’s Top Ten: Releasing Top 16 Seeds This Early is Pointless

The Selection Committee released its top 16 seeds on Saturday (where teams would stand if the tournament started that day). Some initial reactions: Gonzaga as the fourth No. 1 seed is an absolute joke, but being disrespected is nothing new for the Zags Butler not only being a No. 4 seed, but the top No. 4 seed is a head-scratcher. The Bulldogs naturally lost to Providence just hours after the top 16 was revealed. No Big Ten teams in the top 16? Good! As I’ve said time and time again, the conference is trash this year. Wisconsin and Purdue...
