Way too Early 2017-18 College Basketball Top Ten

It has been two months since Gonzaga lost in the national championship and sent your favorite college basketball opiner into an existential crisis. We have come a long way since I was sending out tweets like this: It is bad that Gonzaga is going to lose, but the good news is that death will eventually claim us all — Brian Fox (@RealBrianFox) April 4, 2017 My Gonzaga-fueled depression has abated and I’m ready to look ahead to next year. Now that the draft deadline has come and gone, and all the top recruits ┬áhave committed, just about every roster...

Big Ten Tournament Preview

There’s been a lot of belly-aching recently, largely from those within the league, that the Big Ten isn’t getting enough respect. The reason for that is this: the conference is trash this season. Having a fair number of OK to good teams does not an elite┬áconference make. The Big Ten teams currently projected to go dancing have a combined one top 30 win out of conference, and Purdue needed a miracle comeback in that game to knock off Notre Dame. I’d be pretty surprised if multiple teams made it to the second weekend. But despite the lack of elite...

Fox’s Top Ten: Releasing Top 16 Seeds This Early is Pointless

The Selection Committee released its top 16 seeds on Saturday (where teams would stand if the tournament started that day). Some initial reactions: Gonzaga as the fourth No. 1 seed is an absolute joke, but being disrespected is nothing new for the Zags Butler not only being a No. 4 seed, but the top No. 4 seed is a head-scratcher. The Bulldogs naturally lost to Providence just hours after the top 16 was revealed. No Big Ten teams in the top 16? Good! As I’ve said time and time again, the conference is trash this year. Wisconsin and Purdue...

Fox’s Top Ten: The Madness Has Begun

Remember when I told y’all that every good team was actually bad? Last week was a pretty strong indication that that isn’t too far away from the truth. Seven of the top 10 teams in the country lost, and Kentucky and Florida State both dropped two games. UCLA couldn’t stop crosstown foe USC (not that the Bruins can stop anyone), and UNC had a woeful shooting night against Miami, dropping both teams with FSU out of the rankings. Louisville, West Virginia, and Wisconsin replace them. Let’s get into it. 10. Wisconsin (Last Week: Not Ranked) It’s hard for me...

Fox’s Top Ten: The Road to a Title Will Go Through the West

I feel like I have to say this every year, so here it goes: there is great basketball being played in the Mountain/Pacific time zones. At the moment, there are four legitimate title threats out west and there are plenty more high-quality teams (St. Mary’s, USC, Utah, etc.). Gonzaga is as good (if not better) than anyone in the country, UCLA can outscore anyone, Oregon is the hottest team in America, and Arizona just added its best player to an already great team. There’s a reason to watch #Pac12AfterDark besides Bill Walton’s verbal acid trip–these teams are phenomenal. What’s...
