Notre Dame Basketball’s Mid-Season Crisis

Last night I was walking to class and remembered that Notre Dame was playing basketball…or at least I thought they were.  I pulled up The Score and looked for the game but couldn’t find it.  I was SURE they were playing.  Then I remembered…the score tab shows scores in the top 25…a tab that Notre Dame no longer graces with their presence.  For the past five games, I’ve been asking myself, “what happened?”  The Irish got off to the best start of Mike Brey’s 17-year tenure at 9-0, then sat at 17-3 overall and 6-1 in the ACC, at...

Winter X Games 2017 Recap: Until Next Year, Aspen

Anybody that knows me well knows that the Winter X Games are the only reason I awake from my winter hibernation…well I wish I could hibernate, but anyway…this year’s games were as eventful as ever and I feel it is my duty to write a little summation and pay homage to one of my favorite sporting events of the year.  I want to take the time to note some important highlights from this year’s festivities. Shaun White Is Getting Old Ah, Shaun White, the X Games king.  I remember watching his perfect 100 run in the superpipe event like...

It Keeps Getting Worse: Notre Shame Faces Academic Probation

Okay…when exactly did Notre Dame become Blue Mountain State?  If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already heard the news, but if not, let me get you up to speed on what’s going on in the world of Notre Dame football.  Right when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the Irish get slapped with a year of academic probation by the NCAA and are being forced to vacate all wins from the undefeated 2012 season and the 2013 season.  This is due to a student trainer providing benefits to players who were already suspended for academic reasons.  To my...

Notre Shame Football 2016: My Final Thoughts

Well…it’s over.  There’s one game left but…it’s over.  Notre Dame is officially not going to a bowl game this year.  It’s been an interesting season, to say the least, and I just want to take this opportunity to sum up my final thoughts on this season and the Brian Kelly era as a whole.  I’m not angry anymore, I’m not mad, this isn’t a rant like some of my previous pieces.  Just my closing thoughts. The most infuriating part of this season wasn’t just that they lost more games than they won, but how they lost.  I would have...

I Don’t Always Drink Beer…Wait Yes I Do: The New most interesting man in the world

I’ve witnessed some tragedies in my day.  The Notre Dame national championship game in 2013.  The Chicago Bears.  That Italian beef sandwich I decided to buy at the Illinois State Fair. The year 2016.  Nickelback.  Any Wayans brothers movies past Scary Movie 4.  The Toyota Yaris.  The death of Michael Clarke Duncan.  The births of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.  But NOTHING compares to the tragedy that I saw on TV just the other day.  You know that dude that told us all very convincingly to stay thirsty?  The one man who told us to drink responsibly that we...

Game Recap: Notre Dame Vs. Bye Week

Well, just as with Stanford the week before, we witnessed another hard-fought battle by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this past weekend that they just could not manage to come out on the victorious side of.  I’m talking, of course, about the national game of the week, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-5) vs. the Bye Week Benders (8-0).  There was electricity in the air in South Bend, Indiana, as not even the Friday Night Hangovers could keep the students at bay on Saturday morning.  Gameday found itself in its usual spot on the quad in front of the...

Your Political Correctness Offends Me

As you can probably tell from the title, I’m not exactly a fan of the current political correctness sensation that’s sweeping the nation, or PC as the kids are calling it these days.  Being a 22-year-old recent college graduate puts me right in the middle of things so I see it on a day-to-day basis.  I also want to talk about the concept of being a “tolerant” person and how that term has become a bit of a paradox these days.  I feel they go hand in hand and need to be addressed simultaneously. I believe there is a...

Win or Lose…I'm Sorry if I Put Any of You in the Hospital

Due to a very important prior familial engagement (my parents needing a ride to the airport), I was only able to play my drinking game for the second half of the football game last weekend.  Although it turned out to be the less eventful half of the game, I still feel that I owe anybody that attempted to play my game an apology.  When I started playing, changes were needed almost immediately.  I hope that you all came to the same realization as quickly as I did…my original rules were not to be followed (find original rules here).  I’m...

Karate's Big Break? Welcome to Tokyo 2020

Everybody is aware of the existence of martial arts, but in many cases, that’s the extent of it; general awareness that martial arts are a thing with no knowledge beyond the highly inaccurate stereotypes derived from the Karate Kid movies (thanks a lot, Ralph Macchio).  Yes, there is the UFC and MMA, but each sport in its own, non-aggregated form is forced to live out a very underground existence, especially in the United States.  There are several layers to this as not everybody that practices martial arts views them as a sport.  Whether for sport, self-defense, art, or personal...

Win or Lose, We Still Booze: Notre Dame – Syracuse Drinking Game

So now that Notre Dame’s season is effectively over after just four short weeks of “football,” I’m faced with a bit of a predicament.  At this point, the Irish are in a full tailspin with no sign of a turnaround anytime soon (Thanks, Obama).  I’m a devoted Notre Dame fan and I’m going to watch the rest of the games for some inexplicable masochistic reason, but I would prefer to be drunk and happy during the game rather than drunk and swearing at my TV in between fits of sobbing into a basket of hot wings.  Being drunk is...
