What to Watch Olympics Day 8

Friday August 12th

Archery/Track and Field 8am/7c NBCSN

Men’s individual round of 16 competition continues in Archery, American Brady Ellison looks to continue his run through the tournament and add to the silver medal he won in the team competition. Track and Field finally starts in the Olympics, there will be plenty of preliminary rounds as well as medals being awarded in the Women’s 10k.

Women’s Soccer (USA v Sweden) Noon/11c NBCSN

After a surprising draw against Colombia in the final group stage match the USWNT advanced as the winner of the group and will take on Sweden in the Quarterfinals. What a strange game against Colombia, Hope Solo gave up one of the softest goals I’ve ever seen and then the Colombians scored off a set-piece in the final minutes to earn the draw. Mallory Pugh was fantastic in the last match as was Christen Press setting up chances for the US. It was also really nice to see Megan Rapinoe return from a knee injury and play a solid half hour with some dangerous crosses into the box. Prediction: USA 2 Sweden 0.

Prime-time 8pm/7c NBC

Katie Ledecky looks to add another gold medal to her collection in the 800m freestyle, Missy Franklin attempts to rebound in the 200m backstroke after a poor showing in her first event in the pool and Michael Phelps will compete in the 100m fly finals. There will be the Women’s shot put final, elimination rounds in beach volleyball begin and the qualifying round of the Women’s 3m springboard. A big night that will finally diversify the events.

People forget: Gordon Bombay only coached the Ducks because it was a court order.
