Week 3 NFL Picks
Taking after colleague Charlie Wooding, I’ll be doing some NFL gambling picks including my survivor pool pick. In case you have been living under a rock, you can get a good look at team records and my thoughts on them here. Before we get into the picks I have one single rule: I don’t bet the Bears game. Ever.
- Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers OVER 48 (-105)
Both teams hate playing defense and are coming off of disappointing losses, Rodgers and the Pack looked really bad on Sunday Night, expect Mike McCarthy to have them ready to go. Matt Stafford is just a gunslinger, 39 points in week 1 and 15 in week 2, split the difference and we’re halfway home.
- Baltimore Ravens at Jacksonville Jaguars +1 (-110)
Jaguars looked great in week 1 against Green Bay and got thrashed by Arizona last week. I expect Bortles and the offense to put up at least 3 scores against a Ravens’ defense that allowed 20 points in the first half to Cleveland. This is a pick ’em and at 0-2 I still like the Jags at home over the 2-0 Ravens.
- Arizona Cardinals at Buffalo Bills OVER 47 (-110)
Arizona is averaging 30.5 ppg this season and is playing the Bills who have one of the worst defenses in the league (they gave up 37 at home to the Jets last week). The Bills proved last week that their offense can score and they absolutely have some play-makers. This one will be closer than it should but I’d probably still bet this at the 50-52 range.
- Los Angeles Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers -5.5 (-110)
Jameis and crew looked so good week 1 and laid an egg in week 2. The Rams still haven’t scored a touchdown this year **insert over-used ESPN joke about the last time the LA Rams scored a touchdown here** and while they will probably find the end zone I do not their offense has enough against Jameis at home even with the 5.5 point spot.
- Atlanta Falcons +3 (-105) at New Orleans Saints
Always tough to bet against Brees and the Saints at home, but Derek Carr has already torched them this year. Bring in a red hot Matty Ice and that spells trouble for the worst pass defense in the NFL. The Falcons are not a great team, but they’re good enough to take down the Saints on the road with a 3 point cushion.
Survivor Pick of the Week: Arizona Cardinals
I touched on it above but the Bills are not good. Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald, however, are very good and they also have a top 5 defense on their side. It’s always hard to bet on road teams, but there really isn’t much better to look at this week.
