Two 2017 Top 50 Basketball Recruits Have Committed to Western Kentucky

Yesterday was the first day of Fall (even though it hit 90 in some areas around Chicago) and that means that College Basketball is right around the corner, finally. And Western Kentucky, that’s right, Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers, who have Grimace’s cousin for a mascot, have landed two of the best players in the upcoming class which is ranked 11th by 247 Sports. Their prized recruit is #6 overall, the 7-footer Mitchell Robinson from Louisiana. Robinson had originally committed to Texas A&M and later decommitted in April when Rick Stansbury swooped in and stole him from hometown LSU. What a win for WKU and what a loss for Johnny Jones, especially after having landed All-World player Ben Simmons. Now to give some backstory is fairly important in this situation. Stansbury was an Assistant Coach from 2014-16 at Texas A&M, where Robinson had originally committed. When Stansbury got hired at Western Kentucky, Robinson re-opened his recruitment. Stansbury made a fairly popular move seen in college hoops and hired former Tulane Assistant Shammond Williams onto his staff, who just so happens to be Robinson’s Godfather. Hmm. In their defense, Williams is an ex-NBA player and should be able to help develop the players at WKU. Stansbury hasn’t coached a game yet at Western Kentucky and he’s already coming in with fireworks. I am a HUGE college basketball fan and absolutely love watching Mid-to-Low Major schools play. I am really excited to see what happens this season and with the rest of this recruiting class for Stansbury and the Hilltoppers.

People forget: Gordon Bombay only coached the Ducks because it was a court order.
