Top 10 Hoopmixtapes of All Time

America’s favorite pastime; the hoopmixtape. Nothing better than 3:30 of dunks and blocks with a sick beat in the background. If you haven’t looked up and realized you have spent the past 45 minutes watching random highlights when you were supposed to be studying for a test you haven’t lived and I don’t trust you as a human.

Honorable Mention:

Just saw this the yesterday, s/o to LT hoops. LT Weirdos for life. They did say “welcome to the Lions Den”, which is kinda fucked up, but whatever. Also, I feel like I know the Lyons Township area fairly well, I have never seen that court in my life. Where the HELL is that taking place? Moving on.

*Disclaimer: Some of these aren’t “hoopmixtapes”, obviously.

10) Malik Monk

The ending of this mixtape is absurd. Not to take away from the 1:30 of endless dunks, but the last minute or so is just stupid. Monk is currently a freshman at Kentucky, so tune into their 1000 nationally televised games this year to see more.

9) Trae Jefferson

Much like how the end of Monk’s mixtape made his so great, the opening of this one is just electric. Everyone loves a good short guy mixtape. A quick google search says Trae committed to Texas Southern, but there is nothing to show for it. So who knows where he is these days.

8) Lonzo Ball

By now you have probably heard of Lonzo Ball. He is the freshman sensation currently running the warriors-like attack at UCLA. He is awesome, and hands down my favorite player in basketball to watch. This mixtape perfectly encompasses everything that makes him so great. Just a stream of effortless passes, deep 3’s and athletic dunks. Lonzo Ball is a treat. That sequence at 1:00 gets me every time.

7) Thon Maker

I don’t think there is a basketball fan in America who didn’t watch this. It was the mixtape of its time. Some 7’0 16 year old African doing things even Kevin Durant would be jealous of. Maker is now playing for the Bucks, and it’s way to early to make any calls on his career arc, but lets say “Next Kevin Durant” might have been a stretch.

6) Jamal Crawford, a.k.a J Crossover

As seen in gif form like a million times. The best Handles indeed. Enjoy.

5*) Kevin Connelly

Starts at 40 seconds. Absolutely breathtaking assault on the rim. Aerial display like you have never seen. Crowd was awestruck. What a talent. Shame to report his career is over after 2 seasons at Illinois Wesylean University. Has switched from basketball to aluminum elimination.

Also s/o to me and Matt Gerts

5) Andrew Wiggins

Growing up in the Chicago Suburbs all I knew was Jabari Parker. I saw him as a sophomore dominate Frank Kaminsky’s Benet Team (Benet got the W, don’t want Nick Surges on my tail) and from that moment on I knew he was the next great thing. He was THE player of the 2013 class. And then this happened. Andrew Wiggins dropped this mixtape and from that day forward I questioned all my hunches about life. This shit is just spectacular. Also, a few screenshots need to be shown to explain its greatness

Yes, part of the tape is Wiggins casually jamming on Girls and 5’10 white kids in what appears to be like a charity basketball game or maybe a Gym Class scrimmage.

Yeah me and you both Andy

He tip slams off a fucking miss on his second jump. As an 18 year old.

4) Austin Rivers

I’m sure you saw this coming. One of the classics. The fact he ended up being a below average NBA player is stunning. What a mixtape. Also bonus points for this beat, very hype.

3) Seventh Woods

14 year old. Not a lot more needs to be said on this one. Seventh is now at UNC. His career will be a disappointment no matter what he does, because this was him at 14 years old.

2) Aquille Carr

The “Crimestopper” is the best nickname of all time, right? There isn’t really even much to debate there I’m pretty sure. That is amazing. Also amazing, that opening shot. Got to have the whole family in the hoopmixtape┬áintro. As you probably know, Aquille never made it Seton Hall, and has yet to make it to the NBA, and we are all worse off for that. Still, #2 mixtape of all time according to some random kid from Chicago who didn’t even play High School Basketball┬áis a pretty huge achievement

  1. John Wall

What did you expect? This is a no brainer. Enjoy.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Did you actually think John Wall would just lay the ball out for you to swipe? I almost think that part is a set up or something. Refuse to believe it.
