The Toreros headed north to San Luis Obispo for a grudge match against Cal Poly and boy was it ever. Thanks to La Nina (Spanish for the Nina), the entire field was soaked, some parts of it were even completely under water. A perfect sloppy game, which on paper would seem to benefit Cal Poly because of their option style, run first offense. The thing is, these 2 teams had already played each other so San Diego knew that the Mustang bag of tricks didn’t run very deep. The water logged field made the sleight of hand involved in triple options very tricky and Cal Poly paid for it, fumbling the ball over 3 times. San Diego RB Jonah Hodges is a freak on the field, sacrificing his body for just a few yards more every carry. He finished the night with 171 yards and 3 TDs. Enough can’t be said about the San Diego front 5. Superb run blocking and pulling made Hodges go from a rare talent to a superstar. Pass protection was unreal despite 2 picks thrown, which were almost completely attributable to the weather. So goes this offensive line, so goes the Toreros. The fun loving beach bums head to Fargo to take on powerhouse North Dakota State. FCS football doesn’t get the love it should be this will be appointment television because this USD team is for real. They’re gonna be looking to make the Fargo Dome their home away from home.
VIVA LOS TOREROS!
