Sunday night I had to opportunity to experience a New York Islanders game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. As one would assume based on the title, it did not go well. It didn’t go well because the arena is the worst ever constructed to host a hockey game. One quarter of the arena cannot even see one of the goals! There is absolutely no symmetry in the building, which irks the fuck out of me, and there’s a God damn Toyota pick-up truck behind one of the goals. I sincerely wish I was kidding, but sadly this is all true. The amount of wasted space inside where good, prime seating could be placed is astounding. The actual arena itself is very unique, clean and luxurious – it just isn’t meant for hockey. Don’t forget the fact that the on-ice product is almost as bad as their arena situation and it is a very ugly scenario for the Isles.
