Not gonna give myself too much credit, but I did say that this game was the one I was looking forward to most AND that it would be the best game of Bowl Season. And dammit did it live up to that hype. I will, however, bring myself back to Earth by saying that I blew it by calling the Michigan-FSU game the one we all deserved. Drunk mistake, my bad guys. It was a great game, but the Rose Bowl was one of the greatest games of all-time.

Sam Darnold is legit. The kid is justĀ a FRESHMAN and just torched the B1G champion defense to the tune of 453 yards and 5 touchdowns (a Rose Bowl record). On the flip-side Trace McSorely just made one too many mistakes to win this game and really deflected attention from the massive night Saquon Barkley had. Neither defense showed up, but each was able to force a few turnover — at least enough to make the difference in the game. I honestly can’t say much bad about either side, both teams are two of the hottest in College Football coming into this game and I would LOVE to be able to see this USC team get another crack at Alabama. Unfortunately, that won’t happen. But back to this game. Penn State continued the trend of hating themselves in the first half, just like all of us do after a night of heavy drinking reading back through our texts. Despite their poor start, it was just a 6 point game at the half.

And, in typical PSU fashion, they came out red hot in the second half scoring 28 points in the 3rd quarter. But the Men of Troy regrouped and responded big time. Down 49-35 to start the 2nd half, Ronald Jones II found the end-zone early to cut the deficit to just a score. After finally a few consecutive stops for each defense, the Trojans stormed down the field late to tie the game with 1:20 left. Too much time, right? Well, yes, but McSorely made a crucial mistake throwing an INT downfield just one play after a near interception on the pass before — his 4th turnover of the game. USC had the ball deep in PSU territory but it was up to kicker Matt Boermeester who had already missed twice in the game to win it. As we all know, he nailed it and the Trojans are the Rose Bowl Champs in one of, if the not, the best Rose Bowl in its 103-year history. This game caps off an incredibly disappointing week/weekend for the Big Ten who saw Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State lose, Wisconsin did get the win today over Western Michigan in a closer than expected game.
