The Celtics should be in win-now mode. They have Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford.
So with that said, what the hell is Danny Ainge waiting for?
The Nets pick will be made by some team with the *hope* that pick turns into a superstar. The should-be-in-win-now mode Boston Celtics can leverage that pick to get a bonafide superstar to add to a title push right now!
Sure, this young, potential superstar will be cheaper and a superstar in Beantown longer (potentially, of course), but why wouldn’t the Celtics just go for it now?
They could add Jimmy Butler or Paul George to their core of Thomas, Horford, and a solid bench and compete for a championship right now. They’re already the clear-cut second-best team in the East behind Cleveland, but maybe that’s why the big move hasn’t been made yet.
It’s going to sound crazy, but if Ainge doesn’t make a big move before today’s trade deadline, he’s conceding that even with a core of Thomas, Horford, and Butler/George, his squad will still be incapable of bringing down LeBron James and the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
