The big White Sox news of the day was that AAA RP Zack Burdi will be likely heading under the knife
Zack Burdi has a ligament tear and will likely need Tommy John surgery.

This is a bummer because Burdi had a very realistic chance of pitching a little September baseball this year for the White Sox in what should be a slow crawl to the end of the season. On top of that, Burdi is a total fireballer, so having to get reconstructive elbow surgery is definitely a cause of concern, even with the advancements in the surgery.
The real story here however is why you can’t “half-ass” a rebuild. Acquiring prospect depth, something fearless leader Hahn has mentioned many times over, is crucial in a rebuild, as prospects just simply don’t work out all the time. I will personally guarantee you one of their hard throwing righties will not work out. Seriously, from this list I am going to personally promise you one of these guys is never a regular major leaguer.
- Zack Burdi
- Michael Kopech
- Lucas Giolito
- Reynaldo Lopez
- Dylan Cease
- Carson Fulmer
- Alec Hansen
- Dane Dunning
It’s just the nature of the beast. The good news? There is 8 names on the list, and thats without even mentioning Carlos Rodon or even Spencer Adams, Jordan Stephens and Jordan Guerrero. The Sox are built to withstand this attrition. So keep on keeping on Rick, and get healthy soon Zack. See you in 2019 with Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert and the gang.
