The New England Patriots continue to be the smartest team in late-season acquisitions, picking up the biggest badass on Planet Earth in James Harrison. Harrison was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Saturday (two days before Christmas!) to make room for right guard Marcus Gilbert who was returning from suspension. Harrison is the Steelers all-time sack leader and has racked up at least 5 sacks over the past 3 seasons, even in his limited role at 39 years old.
I get that the dude is old as dirt, but I actually think he is going to give the Patriots some value here. They are really thin at the linebacker position and Harrison gives them a TON of experience rushing from the outside and will give them an added dimension to their defense that they haven’t necessarily had this season. He is also going to be just a god damn presence in the locker room and on the sideline. Just another reason for other teams to look at the Patriots and know their the real deal. Harrison of course had to give a little jab on his way out, I wouldn’t wish putting the job of cutting him on my worst enemies.
