Looks like Stan Bowman is making moves again. This is an incredible buy low opportunity that Stan seemingly jumped on very suddenly after Duclair asked to be traded from the Coyotes. Laurent Dauphin will be heading back to Arizona after never really finding a fit in Rockford since arriving in the Niklas Hjalrmarsson trade. Alternatively, Adam Clendening will be returning to Chicago after a hop and a skip around the league since being traded from Chicago for Gustav Forsling.
Richard Panik was a standout last year, potting over 20 goals for the first time in the show, but this year has been a big struggle for him. He has always an erratic player and drew far too many penalties. Now it looks like Stan sees that Anthony Duclair can be the guy that Panik was supposed to be.
Duclair is fast, and I mean really fast. He can absolutely flourish if he is used correctly. Whether that be on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad, peppered in occasionally with Patrick Kane on the second line, or used in a bottom-6 role, I think he has the skillset to thrive with the Blackhawks. Contractually speaking, he is an RFA after the season, so if things go smoothly, he should be a part of the Hawks going forward for a very reasonable price.
Personally, I like this trade. Duclair is a popular breakout candidate that had his production suppressed by being on the Coyotes. Quenneville is very unpredictable at times with his lines, so we could see him jump around a bit before he finds his niche here. Either way, I think this is a great time for this trade as the Hawks are finally showing signs that they have everything figured out. Looks like he won’t be in the lineup tonight vs the Wild, so look for him to make his debut on Friday against the Jets.
