The Winter Olympics are officially underway and that is a very good thing. Olympics aside March Madness is coming up soon, the NHL wildcard race gets a little more serious and of course soccer is still going on.
On Monday night at 6:00 CT on ESPN Notre Dame plays #14 UNC. North Carolina is fresh off a win against NC State and a victory over rivals Duke. Notre Dame is not even on the bubble with 10 loses. Notre Dame needs to go on a big win streak and that needs to start tonight. Beating #14 UNC could be huge on the resume for Notre Dame if they are able to get their act together.
On TNT this Tuesday the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the OKC Thunder at 7:00 CT. The post trade deadline Cavs looked very good against the Celtics. Is it just beginners luck or is this trend here to stay? I guess we’ll see on Tuesday night.
Wednesday is full of great games. Starting at 6:10 AM CT Team USA plays Slovenia in hockey. The good news is USA will make it into the elimination round. The question remains will they get a bye in the elimination round. All 12 teams in the three groups will make it to the single game elimination round, but the group winners and runner ups get a bye in the first round. The United States appears to be in the group of death with the Athletes of Russia and Slovakia also in Group B. The US will need to be on top form to win the group or even be runner up.
Also on Wednesday is the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg. Paris Saint Germain takes on back to back Champions League winners Real Madrid. Paris Saint Germain have looked unstoppable they have only lost two Ligue 1 games. They also have 76 Ligue 1 goals this season from the attacking force of Mbappe, Neymar, and Cavani. Real Madrid on the other hand sit in 4th in La Liga and haven’t looked great this season. PSG will be trying to prevent Real Madrid from winning the Champions League for the third straight year.
On Wednesday night #4 Xavier takes on Seton Hall in Cincinnati on FS1 at 8:00 CT. Xavier is currently in the first place spot in the Big East and controls their destiny to win the Big East.
Thursday is a whole bunch of mid major madness. Starting at 6:00 CT on CBSSN the University of Cincinnati Bearcats travel to Houston to take on the University of Houston Cougars. Cincinnati is undefeated in AAC play and sits in the first spot in the American Athletic Conference. Cincinnati’s defense has been shutdown all season, time to see if Houston can be the team to break that defense down.
On Friday on ESPN2 at 6:00 PM CT #16 Rhode Island tips off against St. Bonaventure. At the same time on ESPNU Buffalo plays Bowling Green. I’ll be honest I need to catch up on my mid major teams for March Madness, see what teams could possibly upset or be upset. Friday presents the perfect opportunity to catch up on mid major basketball.
