Bubble Games to Watch: February 27
It was a fun night in College Hoops making my job of actually projecting the NCAA Tourney field that much more difficult with Indiana beating Wisconsin, Providence beat Butler, West Virginia knocked off TCU, and so on. But, we did have Ohio State beat Iowa handily at home which should lock in the Buckeyes for the Tourney.
Clemson at Pittsburgh 6pm CT ACC Network
Clemson is barely hanging on to a bid at the moment. They have been unimpressive in conference play and if it weren’t for Justin Robinson getting hurt they probably wouldn’t have beaten Virginia Tech. But they did and with the Hokies win over Duke last night that win continues to look better. All that said, a loss here would really put the Tigers on the outside looking in.
DePaul at Georgetown 6pm CT CBSSN
The Hoyas still have some life left. They get a DePaul team that looked like they had turned a corner early in conference play. But that turned negative quickly as the Demons have dropped 6 of their last 8 including their last 3 by 10+. Georgetown pretty much has to win out to keep their hopes alive.
UCF at South Florida 6pm CT ESPN 3
Tacko Fall and UCF showed just how good they can be this weekend by absolutely dominating SMU. Fall was incredible with 23 points and 20 rebounds. It really makes you wonder why UCF doesn’t just run the offense through him more often but he has his clear disadvantages. UCF is right on the cusp and their final three games following this one are the best teams in the conference. Avoid a bad loss and win two of the next three and the Knights have a real chance at dancing.
Davidson at La Salle 6pm CT ESPN+
Davidson is very much on the outside looking in but as we saw last night, no one is really out of the race just yet. La Salle would be a very bad loss that this team cannot come back from in terms of the bubble. Their sights should already be set on Brooklyn for the conference tournament but you cannot look past the Explorers.
Texas at Baylor 8pm CT ESPN 2
Shaka Smart is already feeling the absence of Kerwin Roach, the Longhorns fell this week to Oklahoma in a very winnable game and head to Waco to play Baylor. I wouldn’t say Texas is a lock at this moment but they’re certainly in the field. A loss opens them up to questions while Baylor would need to implode to miss out.
Florida at Vanderbilt 8pm CT SEC Network
Florida’s win over LSU last week has quickly paid dividends and if the Tigers can stay hot, it will continue to raise the Gators’ stock. That being said, Florida still has to take care of business themselves starting at Vanderbilt tonight. They need to win the next two and if they can split the final games against LSU and Kentucky they’ll be looking really good.
Louisville at Boston College 8pm CT ACC Network
I do not think that Louisville is in danger of falling out of the tournament, yet. The Cardinals have struggled with a tough schedule in February and haven’t looked like the same team since the monumental Duke comeback. Louisville’s inability to close reared its ugly head yet again this weekend as they got Tony’d (scoring <20 points) in the 2nd half against Virginia after taking a double-digit lead into the locker room. This team has a solid resume but things can get out of hand quickly if they lose this one.
