My Arizona State Sun Devils are currently undefeated, that’s right undefeated, in NCAA baseball boasting a 12-0 record. Arizona State’s baseball program is that of a dynasty. It was one of the best programs in all of college sports at one time before having a number of very subpar years which could be contributed to a lack of coaching, not so much a lack of talent.
Now, the Devils seem to be back in the driver’s seat as their season is off to one of the best starts in years, having absolutely annihilated Notre Dame (sorry JHayes) in their opening series, the closest score being 10-1. They’ve been absolutely electric behind sophomore stud Spencer Torkelson who’s hit .431 in 51 ABs with a .500 OBP and 1.127 OPS. Those are monster numbers from a guy going up there every night and getting on base.
The junior outfielder, Hunter Bishop, tallied 5 HRs and a .362 BA in 47 ABs and a 1.301 OPS! Yeah, kid is taking Daddy Hacks all day. With numbers like these, sure to be PAC-12 all-conference, the team has a lot of talented young players who can have a lasting effect on a program trying to get back to Omaha coming off an easily forgettable 23-32 2018 season.
Arizona State University is a land of beautiful scenery, gorgeous co-eds, and a school coveted by aspiring college baseball players everywhere. The alma mater of 109 total Major League Baseball players, including the Home Run King Barry Bonds, Dustin Pedroia, and Ian Kinsler to name a few, ASU is known for producing top prospects and this current team is no different. Tonight, we get to see if the Devils can carry on their win streak against Xavier University (5-5) in Tempe. This year, we will see if they have the drive and cohesiveness to make it to Omaha seeing as we already know they have the talent.
