Post Lottery 2019 NBA Mock Draft 1.0 1

The shit show that was the NBA Draft Lottery is now over, thank God, and it is officially Mock Draft season. I typically hate these because no one has a damn clue what’s going to happen, but this draft is unique because of the scenarios at the top of the draft.

Zion will be the #1 pick and pair up with AD but the question at 2 is what does Memphis do? They have Mike Conley already and a budding star in Jaren Jackson. Do they take Ja Morant and have him split time with the veteran star Conley? Do they try and move Conley and his massive salary? Or do they take a versatile wing like RJ Barrett and fill out their roster. Below are projections based solely on my thoughts and do not include any trades.

Zion is the clear cut choice at 1, no one can or should make a different choice. Despite Memphis’s current situation, I think they still go with Ja Morant. There is a case to be made that they could trade down or just take Morant and let him play with/behind Conley for the next few seasons. Not a bad duo.

At 3, New York cannot screw this up with RJ Barrett. Prior to last season, had you told Knicks fans you could get RJ Barrett at #3 they’d sign up for that 100 times out of 100. Do not look too much into his numbers at Duke. He will get more efficient when he’s involved in an actual offense.

There have been unconfirmed rumors that Phoenix might have promised Darius Garland they’d take him if he was available at 6, which he should be, so I’ve penciled him in there. Although it sounds like the Bulls have done the same ala Chandler Hutchison last season…

Should Garland go to Phoenix the Bulls are still in a decent spot being able to choose between Cam Reddish or a positional need in Coby White. Personally, I feel they can’t go wrong with either guy, but would like to see Coby White take the reigns at starting point guard. The Bulls are another team that could be a trade candidate.

A few other fits I like as we run through the first round, PJ Washington to Charlotte, Romeo Langford to never leave the state of Indiana, Tyler Herro to Boston with pending FAs Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier, Cam Johnson giving Philly a versatile wing that can actually shoot a jump shot, and Carsen Edwards to Golden State.

Washington to Charlotte is the easiest of the bunch for me. He is a lottery talent, I’ve said it the entire college basketball season as he took the reigns at Kentucky despite having guys like Herro, Keldon Johnson, and Reid Travis. There’s no chance Michael Jordan passes up on this kid, he plays such a fun style that translate to the NBA well.

It just makes too much sense that Indiana’s Mr. Basketball would go to Indiana and then get drafted by the Indiana Pacers, completing the cycle of never leaving the state. I think it would be very cool to see this happen, but I also understand that 18 might be low for a player of Langford’s caliber. Although he was injured most of last season and we really only saw some flashes of what he can do, this would be a fun spot to see him land and pair up with Oladipo.

Cam Johnson would be a great pick for Philly. They really need a guy with his skillset and he could be a solid contributor off the bench right away for them. Lastly, I love, LOVE the idea of Carsen Edwards in the Bay Area. He fits perfectly as a backup guard behind Steph. He shots the ball well and can distribute, he could easily be a splash brother protege.

People forget: Gordon Bombay only coached the Ducks because it was a court order.
